Exhibition Planning

The general strategy for precautionary preservation consists of designing and creating an appropriate "environment" which respects the conservation requirements of a particular exhibit. In the course of an exhibition, these requirements can enter into conflict with the decision of how an object will be displayed to the public.  Exhibiting an artwork means removing it from a given environment with specific characteristics and transferring it to another one, where the general features are often very much different. This process entails handling, transporting and  floodlighting the artwork, displaying it to direct or indirect contact with the public and safeguarding it against theft, fire and vandalism. Rigorous control of an artwork's "safety" during such a process is guaranteed exclusively through multidisciplinary planning and integrated team work.
